I am always interested in the idea power. Power is gained in many ways: brute force, money, knowledge, forming alligences, and so on.
But what I am thinking about is the spiritual power of love. And when I use that term I am not thinking about a mushy, do-good sort of idea. I'm thinking about a love that is a certain type of love which is embraced by knowledgeable Christians. It is agape love; a love which is of the highest order of all types of love. There is eros which is a Greek word for sensual or sexual love. There is storgay which is the Greek word for love of family. Then there is phileto which is a Greek word for fondness for people. Agape love is almost impossible to define into words, but it is a giving love which must come from a power which is not humanly possible. It is the love which the Christian believes is in the heart of God and was revealed through His Son Jesus Christ.
The Bible is in most basic form, is a story about this love. From the very beginning this book unfolds how God brought His love to all of humanity. The power of the kind of love is that it must first do its work in the heart of individuals. No one can give to others what they have not first experienced for themselves. It is when a person fully embraces that power love into ones own soul, that provided that same powerful force to pass on to others, In other words, the love of God goes from one human soul to another. So the idea of mass revivals is not there...it is a slow moving force of God's Kingdom that slowing takes the place of the power of evil in humanity.
When God sent His Son Jesus, Jesus came as a mere human being, and yet He was able to live above the normal human experience because of His love for His Father. As Christians we come to the Father through His Son Jesus. Jesus's disciples were finally called to be His friends...and that was toward the end of His ministry to His disciples. What Jesus was doing, was bringing them into a higher relationship and taught them to come to the Father, just as He came to His Father for His love. This teaches us that we are called also called to a relationship with God as our Father. Those who only worship Jesus have not yet entered into what God has for them. God the Father wants us to come to Him through His Son.
Jesus came to become a sacrifice for our sins; His ministry was one of leading us our of our lost condition and through His being human, we could see exactly what God is really like...until up to that time, through the Law humanity thought that God was a being that was ready to bring harsh judgment of His creation. But the Apostle Paul writes that the Law was given to make the whole world guilty before God, that the Law had no power to save. The purpose of the Law was to prepare the human soul by bringing conviction and those conviction of our guilt made us ready to receive God's grace and mercy.
That is where the love of God shines its brightest; that is where God's love finally shakes us free from all the guilt and shame of our past and delivers us out of the powers of darkness. Jesus came to bring grace and truth....with out grace, truth can not deliver any one from their lost condition.
When this powerful force of God's love grips enough human souls. there will be a sweeping of this powerful force that nothing can hinder. It is above all other powers, it is above all the power of money and knowledge and organization. It is a kingdom that never can be move...it is God's kingdom coming into the earth where His will is done just as it is done in heaven...amen...
